The first cartridge to put Dynavector’s patented systems for reducing the influence of magnetic fields on the moving coil’s operation into practical use was the XX-1L model, which has since been discontinued. An excellent moving coil system is crucial for a top-tier MC cartridge. The cantilever, coil, damper, and rigid body are important components that ensure exceptional performance. We firmly believe that the cartridge’s magnetic circuit is an equally critical element that cannot be overlooked. The pickup’s output signal is generated by the movement of a vibrating component within a magnetic circuit. An electrical signal is produced when the coil vibrates within the magnetic flux generated by a magnet. A good output signal level cannot be achieved unless the magnetic flux has high density and stability. In our magnetic circuit, we use pure iron, which has high magnetic permeability and maintains a high magnetic flux density. Its stability is second to none, making it the optimal material for producing a distortion-free output signal. However, during the machining of parts, the metal’s crystal structure at the atomic level becomes distorted as a result of deformation and forming, which causes a significant loss of magnetic permeability. Annealing is necessary to restore the metal’s distorted crystal structure. The process of restoring magnetic permeability is called magnetic annealing, which involves heating and cooling the workpieces. However, general magnetic annealing cannot completely correct distortions in the crystal structure; therefore, magnetic permeability cannot be fully restored. Furthermore, magnetic annealing conditions vary depending on the material, size, shape, etc., of the parts. Therefore, as part of this new project, we focused on identifying the optimal magnetic annealing process by optimizing the annealing temperature, annealing environment, heating time, and heating and cooling rates. As a result, we can now successfully demonstrate the full potential of the unique magnetic properties of pure iron. The robust and rigid construction of the aluminum alloy body ensures excellent mechanical performance of the moving coil. It consists of a Panthfinder Line-cut stylus mounted on a cantilever made of a boron rod 6 mm long and 0.3 mm in diameter. The coil is wound with PCOCC copper wire and produces an output voltage of 0.28 mV.The new, ideal magnetic circuit has radically improved sound quality thanks to the highest resolution without distortion, smooth expression across a wide range, and a spacious soundstage.
