Madake

Madake is a rare species of bamboo that grows on the slopes of Mount Kyoto near
the Iwashimizu Hachiman Shrine.
Thomas Edison was the first to use it in the construction of the first light bulb, as the base for the filament.
A monument commemorating this great inventor stands at the site where this species of bamboo grows.
Madake bamboo is not sold, which means it is not generally available.
Mr. Noriyuki Miyajima was, as an exception, provided with this valuable raw material and
used it to construct the insole components. 

         
Madake is an insole that replaces the
sensational Kansui at the top. Like all of Mr. Miyajima’s cartridges, the Madake is built
based on his original design. Madake bamboo is used to construct part of
the cantilever—the element that directly transmits vibrations from the groove
of the record. The Saboten, Saboten L, and Madake cartridges have
slightly different cantilever geometries, as shown in the diagram.

According to Noriyuki Miyajima,
this solution provides an even more direct
transfer of the “needle’s” vibrations to the coil assembly and even less
distortion, while the exceptional “mechanical” properties of bamboo have made it possible to
create a cartridge with absolutely perfect sound.
