The Reference Series in Vitus Audio’s lineup is the “entry-level” series of devices. However, this does not mean that the devices in this series are treated any less seriously.
The RD-101 mkII is a digital-to-analog converter with streaming capabilities. It features six different digital inputs (SPDIF, AES/EBU, USB, and RJ45), as well as a full set (1xRCA, 1xXLR) of analog inputs and outputs. All major digital and analog circuits have been divided into modules and enclosed in metal “enclosures,” each of which has been potted.
The converter accepts 32–192 kHz/24-bit signals from traditional inputs. The USB input supports Native DSD up to 128 and PCM at 384 kHz/32-bit. The RJ45 input supports the full suite of DLNA/UPnP protocols, as well as Tidal Connect and Spotify Connect. It works perfectly in combination with both traditional sources and a “computer.” The device is characterized by a well-organized and coherent sound, with greater emphasis placed on harmony and tone than on “fireworks.”
