TTT – Compact

Despite its unassuming design and compact size, the Thales TTT-Compact turntable incorporates advanced technologies and competes with the best designs in the analog audio field. The turntable and tonearm form a single unit. The turntable’s chassis was designed step by step by Hifiction AG. Each of the one hundred parts is carefully manufactured in the company’s workshop.

The turntable is driven by a 20-watt brushless DC motor mounted on a precisely engineered component. The motor’s “suspension” effectively isolates any vibrations generated while preventing axial movement of the motor. The pulley, which acts as a flexible flywheel, compensates for all inaccuracies originating from the motor. Torque from the motor is transmitted via a belt that was originally used in the medical industry. The entire drive system is covered by a plate.

This bearing features a traditional design that has been refined with true watchmaker’s precision. The main shaft is made of tool steel and coated with a layer of chrome. It is then hand-polished. In the horizontal plane, sintered bronze sleeves impregnated with a special oil are used as bearings. The vertical end of the axle is fitted with a spherical sintered carbide insert and supported by a steel ball. The bearing housing is made of ductile iron. This material has excellent damping properties and effectively isolates bearing “noise” from the main chassis.

The plate weighs 8.5 kg. However, the way the mass is distributed (with most of it located near the outer edge) makes it behave as if it weighed 10 kg. It has been tuned to a single resonant frequency, which is effectively dampened by the vinyl mat. The mat also serves as the surface on which we place the record.

The spikes—what you see on the outside—and the internal structure, which isolates the turntable from external vibrations and allows it to be leveled.

The power supply and control system was specially developed for this turntable and guarantees greater rotational stability than systems with quartz stabilization. The power supply is based on LiFePo (lithium iron phosphate) batteries and provides up to 16 hours of music playback. Switching between charging and playback modes is done manually.
