Saboten
Like the Madake, the Saboten inlay uses natural materials for its support structure. In this case, a cactus spine was used, set in an aluminum sleeve. The body of the insole is made of Lignum Vitae wood, which is one of the heaviest species in the world (it sinks in water). The Saboten and Madake insoles have slightly different support geometries, as shown in the diagram. According to Noriyuki Miyajima, this solution provides an even more direct
transfer of the “needle’s” vibrations to the coil assembly and results in even less
distortion.
