A digital-to-analog converter controlled by a signal processor. Technologically impressive, the Maximinus is a highly versatile device whose wide range of capabilities is matched only by the quality of its construction. At the heart of the Maximinus’s technology is an R2R ladder circuit. The resistor matrix used in it changes for different output levels, in a manner similar to volume control. In the search for further solutions to improve the available D/A converters, the decision was made to build a very high-quality circuit based on our own design. To take full advantage of the available resolution and frequency response, modern data preprocessing was employed. The 16-bit, 44.1 kHz data read from the CD is then converted to 32-bit, 352.8 kHz and sent directly to the D/A converter. . The entire process can be controlled by the user and can even be disabled. There are no buffers or filters at the output, ensuring the cleanest possible signal from the transducer. The Maximinus’s power supply is highly sophisticated—each module of the device has its own power supply. The entire unit is then housed in a sturdy and functional aluminum enclosure that absorbs vibrations and protects against radio interference and electromagnetic waves.
