My Sonic Lab

The name My Sonic Lab needs no introduction
to analog enthusiasts. The company is well known for producing top-quality
phono cartridges. Its founder is Mr. Yoshio Matsudaira, who began his
career in 1959 at Tokyo Sound Co., designing cartridges and
tones arms for the Japanese National Broadcast Co. In the second half of the 1960s
, he began collaborating with Spex Co., where he continued
to design tonearms and phono cartridges on commission
for other companies. In the late 1970s, he designed cartridges for, among others,
Koetsu Myiabi. The 1980s saw him working as chief engineer with
Audio Craft Co., where he introduced such outstanding products as
the AC-110/110L turntable, the AC-3300/4400 tonearm, the AC-3 cartridge, and the
TS-200 (SUT) and PE-6000 Signature (phono stage) preamplifiers.

Mr. Yoshio Matsudaira-san also designed cartridges for Air Tight.
To make his dreams a reality, in 2003 he founded his own company, My
Sonic Lab (the letters in the name “My” refer to the founder’s initials)
and launched his first products under his own brand and according to his own philosophy.
These were the EMINENT MC cartridge and the MC Stage 202 transformer. From the very beginning,
the goal was to design an MC cartridge with the lowest possible internal impedance
and the highest possible output level. This is achieved through
the use of innovative materials in the coil core
. Thanks to these materials’ properties, it is possible to reduce the amount of wire
needed to wind the coil while maintaining a high output level.
The first EMINENT cartridge had an output level of 0.5 mV with an internal impedance of just
1.8 ohms. The material used by My Sonic
Lab goes by the enigmatic name SH-µX. The cartridges currently
manufactured by My Sonic Lab continue to adhere to the principle of low impedance and high
output.
